ORÉE is a sound installation for multi-channel headphones. The proposal was designed for the Big Biennale 2025 in Geneva, in the Bois de la Bâtie.
Equipped with headphones, participants are invited to wander freely in the undergrowth and choose one of the three sound channels (blue, green or red). Each deploys a different temporality, all projected into a more or less near future, or a more or less distant past.
These composed soundtracks combine soundscapes, narrative fragments, textures and fictions. They do not describe the forest, they open it, unfold it, transform it, revealing invisible strata of its being, its memories, its possible futures. The public then becomes an explorer of a plural territory: the forest becomes a moving archive, an art of anticipation, a living organism whose present is inhabited by other times. Every step, every look on trees or mosses, is enriched with another reality. The apparent silence of the place is coupled with a rustle of parallel worlds. The work invites you to listen differently, to feel the place not only as it is, but as it could have been, or become.
With Orée, Rachel Morend offers a science-fiction exploration: what sounds will resonate here, at this latitude (46.198393) and this longitude (6.125297)? Lush forest, desert area, aquatic landscape or inhabited territory? The installation takes us on a journey where the present cracks and intertwines with projections of the future.
